Squeezing Out Freelancers
After the PROact failed in Congress for the third time, a new union campaign emerged to enact the PROact piecemeal. Two California bills passed to end state use of independent contractors for court translations.
As reported in the Orange County [CA] Register, legislators friendly to unions approved two bills forbidding state courts from using IC translators (AB432) and paying unions to train replacement translators to work as state employees (AB1032).
